| When
Maria Maw received the facility now known as Maria’s Care
it was a disused factory complex with a number of large buildings
in various stages of disrepair. Since then it has been transformed
into a facility that now houses: + Kamuli Parents Primary School (KPPS), which has classes
for each year in Primary School (P1 to P7), offices for the
Head Master and Deputy Head, staff room and kitchen facilities.
(KPPS caters for about 350 children, some come from the town and pay school fees, others are being sponsored for school fees plus requirements or fees only.
+ The K.P.P.S. Pre-school
+ The K.P.P.S. Deaf School
There are specialists teachers for the deaf children, who are taught up to P4 level.
+ A large hall, used by Maria’s Care, KPPS and the local
community for meetings
+ The Training School of Life Skills (TSOLS) which is the vocational school teaching tailoring, crafts, typing.
+ Administrative offices for CRU
+ Two houses “Gods Miracle” and “Mary’s
Memorial” – which provide accommodation for the
Director, CRU visitors and volunteers
+ Two houses for staff
+ A borehole to provide a regular supply of good quality
water
Maria’s Care is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation
(NGO) in Uganda with the mission of providing functional literary
skills, life skills training, and further education to school
dropouts, orphans, and illiterate women. One of its key goals
is to promote self-sufficiency so each child or adult supported
can become a contributing member of the larger community.
For a number of years now one of the support activities that
we encourage for the schools we visit in this country, is to become
involved in supporting Maria’s Care and other schools in
educational projects. An excellent example of this, is the
support from schools such as Holles Pre-School and Vernon
Junior School in Poynton and Park Royal School in Macclesfield.
Visits by staff and supporters to Maria’s Care are actively
promoted through the Volunteer Visits undertaken by CRU a
number of times each year. If you would like to find more
about this please contact Rhona Marshall on info@christianreliefuganda.org
or 01625 618319.
