Sponsor A "Granny"
Whilst the impact of AIDS on orphans is well known, much less is reported on the difficulties faced by older people in Uganda.

Where their own children have died of AIDs many are left with not only having to look after themselves in their old age, there being no regular support from the State, but also often having to look after their grandchildren.

Whilst CRU has always helped a number of grandchildren in these circumstances, we now also wish to directly help these grandparents and elderly disabled people where we can. We currently support nearly 20 "granny" projects. Some are not grannies at all but include some old and lonely blind men.

How can you help?

CRU urgently needs people who would be willing to sponsor a Granny or older person by giving regular financial support. Currently, we are able to give 20,000 Ugandan Shillings (about £7) per month to each "granny" to provide help with food, medicine or transport.

To give some idea of costs:

+ £10 per month supplies basic needs such as a large bag food, soap and salt.

+ £15 per month supplies the above plus some basic medicines

+ £25 per month supplies the above plus some clothing, blankets etc

If you would like to sponsor a Granny, please download a Granny Sponsorship Form or request a form by emailing sponsoragranny@christianreliefuganda.org

In return you will receive a photo and a few details about your sponsored person.

The person you sponsor will be supported by CRU through a variety of initiatives including the Village Projects which may include maintenance work to their homes or a new house if funds are available.
